Another overbearing public figure has determined that our feeble minds simply can't grasp the complex issue of healthcare reform. Like Bill Maher, Tom Brokaw declares Americans "very confused" on the issue during his recent Today Show appearance. To be fair, Brokaw wasn't nearly as arrogant and disdainful as Maher, but that's because Brokaw has some depth of professionalism and intelligence while Maher is simply a grandstanding windbag.
Americans can make up their own minds. They don't require a select few elitists to make decisions for them, as the people are capable of making their own decisions based on the facts. However, if there is public confusion about healthcare reform, Brokaw and his ilk have only themselves to blame. It is the job of the politicians and media to give the people the facts they need to understand the issues and form opinions. If the nation lacks the facts, it's because people like Brokaw, Pelosi, Maher and many others ignore their duties (to informa and report), choosing instead to preach.
