Not at all for the people

Well at least you can't accuse him of beating around the bush. Allegheny County Democratic Party Chairman Jim Burn has announced his candidacy for Chairman of the State Democratic Party. Now, there are lots of reasons a person might give for wanting to be in politics. I'd like to think that they want to recruit the best candidates. And that they'd want to ensure that the wishes of the voters are being represented to the fullest. And that they want to make this a better place to live by attracting jobs, lowering taxes, finding better funding solutions. I could go on, but you get the idea.

Anyway, according to this Pittsburgh Tribune-Review article, our local Democratic leader & County Councilman doesn't share any such altruistic motives. His reasoning for seeking the parties highest state office is quite simple: to take away votes from the Republicans in the traditionally red central PA region. Apparently, the party should spend lots of time, money & effort getting voters to change their minds.

Well I have a suggestion for Mr. Burn and the other leaders of both parties: Give us good candidates, better than the theiving, selfish bastards we have now. They're unapologetically taking WAMS, expanding state government, creating useless new bureaucracies (State Gaming Commission, anyone?) and more. They couldn't make our money disappear any faster if they were simply throwing it into a bonfire. While we sit & watch for Bonusgate mistrials (convenient how Veon's tightest comrade may have accidentally perjured himself just enough to get the big V a mistrial . . . ), lament a city so crippled with incompetence that they aren't capable of clearing 20 inches of snow from main roads like Butler Street & support some of the highest job losses AND taxes in the country, I can assure you that the current system isn't working.

The local & state Democrats are almost solely responsible, as a Republican hasn't had any power in W PA for decades. Thus I can say with certainty, the party is NOT giving us the best candidates. The party is not represented by the best, the brightest or even the least of the evils.

So instead of embarking upon a PR campaign to do whatever it takes to ensure Republicans get less votes (what a noble goal for any party, by the way), try securing votes the old-fashioned way: find some candidates who don't completely suck. Trust me, the votes will follow.
