Stupid Is As Stupid Does

In my free time, I like to troll message boards about politics & current events. My schedule doesn't allow me to indulge this hobby much but when I can find the time, I really enjoy taking in the many differing views. Sometimes I learn interesting facts that help solidify my opinions or change my mind. Other times I revel in pointing out the flaws in someone else's argument. On rare occasions, I'm forced to school someone who's just completely talking out of their ass & simply doesn't have a clue. For such occasions, I've created an invisible statue of Forrest Gump to be bestowed through cyberspace to the author of the most foolish postings. It’s the official Angry American “Stupid Is As Stupid Does Award”, which will be bestowed today for the very first time.


There was a particularly idiotic post in a recent discussion about global warming. The post is meant to criticize a recent statement made by Glenn Beck, who does not buy into the global warming hoopla. The writer begins by listing a handful of supposedly credible sources like graduates of Ivy League schools, members of the US military & a few politicians. Sorry but graduating with a liberal arts degree doesn't make you a scientist, nor does being in the military. And if politicians say that something is true, I'm inclined to believe that the facts in question are more likely false than not, but that’s just me.

But something else elevates the post from a poorly structured argument devoid of relevant facts to abject stupidity. The author of the blurb also included credible sources to include Emmy, Grammy & Academy Award winners while dismissing Beck as nothing but an entertainer. That’s a pretty tough sell to say mere entertainers like Beck have no place in this discussion but Grammy & Emmy winners are founts of wisdom qualified to stand in the place of actual scientists in this debate. And for that, I say, here’s your Gump.
